My clients do not get a set plan of meals or exercises. I believe that telling people what to do and demanding they follow some set regime is disempowering and short-sighted.
Paternalism breeds dependency, encourages passivity and undermines people’s capacity to look after themselves.
What I do instead is help my clients develop their own solutions, suited to their unique circumstances - their lifestyle, existing work and family commitments, their personal strengths and weaknesses, as well as their likes and dislikes.
We live in the information era and there is plenty of advice everywhere. Most of us know what we should be doing to get fitter and improve our health, but we struggle to change our behaviour patterns and implement lasting change.
